Inhalation Therapies

Inhalation Therapies for Lung Disease

Many diseases of the lungs such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and lung cancer can be treated by applying drugs directly to the lungs. Inhalation delivery allows for highly localized delivery with more limited side-effects than systemic administration of drugs. Powerscope has spent several years developing novel methods of delivering drugs to the lungs. Powerscope’s proprietary technologies revolve around creating ultra-dense aerosols of drug nanoparticles or deep submicron sized aerosol particles. These extremely small particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, providing for treatment of small airways and also reducing the amount of drug that is deposited in the mouth, throat, and trachea.

Applications

1. General use of aerosols for preclinical animal trials - Small animals such as mice have smaller airways, and thus very small drug aerosol particles are needed to effectively deliver drugs to the lungs. Also useful for toxicology studies on small animal models.

2. Access to the peripheral region of the lungs with aerosolized drugs - Our technologies allow for deposition of particles as well as droplets in the peripheral regions of the lungs without undesired deposition in the bends and constrictions of the upper airways.
